The Ultimate Prayer for a Financial Breakthrough

In Need of a Financial Breakthrough?  Pray this Prayer and Watch God Move on Your Behalf

You never imagined that life would be like this.  You’re struggling to make ends meet,  you’ve lost a job, experienced a financial crisis or maybe you have a job but it’s simply doesn’t pay enough.  And as your bills began to pile up so do your stress levels.  You’re tired and in desperate need of a financial breakthrough.

Thankfully you realize that prayer is the key to unlocking the financial blessing that you need. But what type of prayer should you be praying over your finances? What type of prayer will cause God to move on your behalf, and how do you get ready for your breakthrough?   

Your Approach to Praying for a Breakthrough Might Not be the Best 

Early on in my spiritual journey when I had a financial need I would just ask God to bless me with more money.  I wanted Him to shower me with financial miracles that would instantly change my situation with little effort on my part.

However, that wasn’t necessarily the best way to ask God for a financial blessing. Yes, He absolutely has the power to miraculously supply us with the money that we need. Yet, there are so many things that we don’t know and understand. There are dangers seen and unseen surrounding money that the enemy can use to try to entrap us.

Furthermore, we don’t understand the mind of God.  His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.  Isaiah 55:8-9  God has thousands of ways to provide a financial blessing for us that we can’t even imagine.

So instead of dictating to God exactly how you feel He should bless you financially, the best thing to do is to pray for the things you know are in line with His will for you regarding money.  Which is why you must go to the word and see what God says about your financial situation.  Then you can be confident that your prayers are in line with His will for your life.  And don’t worry, at the bottom of this post I’ve provided you access to a free download of 5 prayers and over 30 scriptures that you can start studying and praying back to God today!

How You Should Pray

Acknowledge God and His Power 

When you began praying over your finances it is so important that you first acknowledge God and His power in your life.  No matter what your financial situation is, it is God that supplies all of your needs, and it is God that has the power to change your situation.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18

Yet knowing that God gives you the power to create wealth and supplies ALL of your needs isn’t enough.  You must not only acknowledge this but you must also believe.

The story of the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the promised land is a sad one.  There were so many things that God wanted to do for them, so many blessings, financial and otherwise, that He wanted to give them, but He couldn’t because they harbored a spirit of unbelief.  Unbelief is the one thing that will keep you from receiving the financial breakthrough that you need from God.  Which is why God makes it perfectly clear that He rewards those who believe Him and diligently seek Him.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

Do you see why it’s so important that you get really serious about praying for your finances?

Ask God to Give You the Right Attitude Towards Money

If you want God to bless you with financial increase, you must recognize that God needs to know that He can trust you with the money.  God is not in the business of giving you things that will harm you, and if your attitude towards money is not right, it can be extremely harmful to you.

Which is why you must ask God to teach you to value money and not love money.  Whether you realize it or not our human nature makes it easy for us to fall in love with money.  We naturally tend to love the things that money can buy as well as the way having money makes us feel.  But this is not God’s plan for money, it is a trap designed by the enemy to pull you away from God.

The word clearly outlines the dangers associated with falling in love with money:

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:10

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24

There is a direct conflict with loving money and loving God.  And because God only wants what is best for you, you must ask yourself the question, why would God bless you with a financial blessing if you heart longs to love money instead of Him.

So if you truly want God to bless you with a financial breakthrough, it is so important that you ask Him to help you develop and maintain the right attitude towards money.  Remember, money is to be valued but never loved.

Ask God to Show You How to Obtain Wealth

If you’re hungry and in need of a meal, one of the greatest gifts someone can give you, is not a fried fish platter (although that sounds yummy), but instead the gift of  teaching you the skills necessary so that you can go out and catch  fish for yourself.  By developing this skill you will have the ability to provide countless meals for your self and others.  Now, that’s a real gift.

This principle is no different when it comes to God’s financial blessings.  You may be inclined to only desire that God fix your current situation by sending you the money that you need.  However in many causes that is not a financial breakthrough, it’s a financial bandaid.

You have to understand that God’s desires for you are much greater than any temporary fix.  God wants to equip you to be successful in all things.  And the gift of possessing the skills necessary to meet all of your financial needs is an amazing one!

Yet, you have to understand that this type of financial breakthrough won’t come easy. It’s going to require guidance from God coupled with hard work on your part.  You’re going to have to put in blood, sweat and tears, but the reward will be oh so worth it.

So if you’re wondering how do you breakthrough financially, simply ask God for two things.  Ask Him to show you how to obtain wealth and to give you the work ethic necessary to achieve that goal.  He will do it because His word promises it.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich. Proverbs 10:4

Now keep in mind this is a prayer that the average person might not want to pray because they don’t want to put in the work that’s required.  But thankfully you’re not satisfied with average because you’re seeking God’s best.

Ask God to Teach You to Use Your Money Wisely

The interesting thing about money is the fact that no matter how little or how much you have, it can always be misused. How often have you heard the story of athletes or other entertainers who were blessed with millions of dollars, yet for some reason eventually found themselves broke?

These are sad tales of wealth being misused.  Which is why you must learn from the mistakes of others.  God has called each and everyone of us to be good stewards of the money He’s blessed us with.  But being a good steward requires you possess a good sense of how God wants you to spend your money.

Which is why it is so important that you dig deep into the word to discover how God expects you to spend your money.  Now again, don’t worry, I’m providing you a great foundation to get started with in my free download “5 Prayers for a Financial Breakthrough” that can be obtained at the end of this post.  But for now here are some Biblical insights as to how God wants you to spend your money.

Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; Proverbs 3:9

But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8

Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8

As you can see from these scriptures God expects you to give part of your wealth back to Him, He expects you to provide for yourself and your family, and He expects you not to owe people money by getting into debt.  So it’s your job to pray and ask God to help you to spend your money wisely in accordance with Biblical principles.

The Rewards That Come From Praying for a Financial Blessing

When you pray for a financial blessing with a sincere heart you are guaranteed to be rewarded.  The rewards might not seem to come immediately, but trust me God is working on your behalf behind the scenes.

Furthermore, when you choose to trust and believe God with all of your heart there are certain rewards that you are guaranteed to receive.  The first gift that you will receive is the confidence that comes from knowing God has heard your prayer.

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14

The second gift you will be rewarded with is wisdom to handle your financial situation. God knows the best way to remedy your situation and He will provide you with the wisdom you need make it through your financial struggle.

For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; Proverbs 2:6

And one of the most important gifts you will receive is peace.  The devil has a way of using finances to destroy  your relationships, negatively impact your health, and steal your peace.  But God lets us know it doesn’t have to be that way.  When you come to God with your financial burdens, He immediately offers you His peace in exchange for your burden.  It’s simply up to you to accept it.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Taking Action and Moving Forward in Faith 

Now that you know the types of things that should be included in your prayer for a financial breakthrough, what are you going to do after you’ve prayed What action steps are you going to take? What jobs are you going to apply for?  What promotions are you going to work hard to position yourself to receive?  What skills and talents do you posses that you can use to obtain wealth?  How will you adjust your current spending habits?
